One of the puzzle making programs that I am using is testing a new story making AI app. I thought it would be fun to test it out and see how well it worked by having it create a Happy themed story. Here is a short story that it created using the prompt A dog named Happy finds a slice of cake.
Happy was a golden retriever who lived in a small town. One day, while he was out on his daily walk, he stumbled upon a slice of cake lying on the sidewalk. He sniffed around it for a bit and then took a small nibble. It was the most delicious thing he had ever tasted. Happy’s tail wagged with excitement, and he gobbled up the rest of the cake in a matter of seconds.
As he continued his walk, he couldn’t stop thinking about the cake. He made a mental note of the place where he found it and made sure to visit it every day in the hopes of finding another slice of cake. Days turned into weeks, and Happy’s routine remained the same. Each day he would walk to the same spot, hoping to find another slice of cake.
One day, to his surprise, he found an entire cake sitting there! Happy was ecstatic. He wagged his tail so hard that his whole body shook with excitement. He ate the cake with such gusto that he ended up with frosting all over his face.
From that day on, Happy became known as the “cake dog.” People in the town started leaving slices of cake for him at the same spot where he found the
Knowing Happy’s love of food, I think that it did a fairly good job creating a story that reflected Happy’s love of food. But the story stared a golden retriever and not a little schnauzer. So I thought that I would take a few minutes to make the story even more Happy inspired.

Happy was a handsome miniature schnauzer who lived in a small town. One day, while he was out on his daily walk, he stumbled upon a slice of his favorite desert, coconut wonder cake, lying like a forgotten gem upon the warm sidewalk. Who could have committed such a travesty he wondered as he marched firmly past the tempting slice. How could anyone walk away from a thick, rich, moist, coconut infused slice of stomach dancing delight. Such an act of waste should be a crime he sighed as he set his face towards home, trying desperately to push all remembrance of that tempting plate that seemed to dance before his bedazzled eyes beckoning him to do his noble duty to the planet and prevent this rich morsel from becoming another waste statistic.
“No, I cannot turn around, I must go home! It would be stealing, and I am not that type of dog.” He mournfully howled and he determinedly set his face towards home. With all of his doggy might he lifted his paw and took one tentative step in the direction of home, but before he realized what was happening, like a piece of metal attracted by a powerful magnet he was pulled closer and closer to that glorious fragrance of warm sugar and coconut goodness.
For a moment he turned his head away. “I will be strong. I will not give into temptation.” He said with heavy heart. “I will not let temptation win. I will go home the victor in this…in this…in this fight.” His words trailed off into the abys as a gentle, cake infused breeze, instantly drew his longing gaze in the direction of that forbidden slice, chasing away his resolve with the determined speed of a cheetah chasing after its prey.
“Hmm, I wonder if I was wrong about heading home without taking a look first. Maybe I should take a moment to investigate why that piece of puppy goodness was abandoned. What if the owner of that slice of delight stepped away for just a second and when he returned, he found it was gone because a sneaky pup had taken advantage of his absence to devour such a worthy treat. Or perhaps, something horrible has happened and the owner of this morsel is lying somewhere nearby in need of my help. After all, no pup in their right mind would walk away from such a succulent morsel. Maybe I had better take a quick sniff and make sure that all is well before I return home, after all, one little sniff couldn’t hurt.” he reasoned to himself before he turned around and made a beeline for the slice of cake.
He sniffed around it for a bit, giving an occasional side ways glance to see if anyone noticed that his quivering lips were hovering barely an inch away from that seemingly abandoned slice. “See I was right,” he declared to himself with confidence as his nose brushed ever so lightly over the vanilla ice topping. “One little sniff never hurt anything…” and then took a small nibble, a personal sacrifice to ensure that it was not a slice of coconut scented poison posing as cake. It was the tiniest of nibbles that he was certain would require a microscope to reveal. It was only a bite, a microscopic crumb that no one would miss.
But in an instance his mouth was overcome by the most intense, the most delicious thing he had ever tasted.
Each day he would walk, nay run, to the same spot, hoping to find another slice of cake.
One day, to his surprise, he found an entire cake sitting there! Happy was ecstatic. He wagged his tail so hard that his whole body shook with excitement. This time, without moments struggle he dove into the mound of gooey goodness, and he ate with such gusto that he ended up with frosting all over his face.
To his horror, he turned around to discover that a crowd had gathered to watch him enjoy his stolen feast. Lowering his head and tucking his sagging tail between his legs he waited for the barrage of angry shouts that he knew he rightfully deserved. To his surprise instead of accusations, he was greeted by cheers for his animated display of delight.
From that day on, Happy became known as the “Happy cake dog.” Much to his delight, people in the town gathered around him to grin and cheer as he devoured a seemingly endless supply of scrumptious goodness. From that day forth they started leaving slices of cake for him at the same spot where he found the first slice of irresistible cake because he had become the town’s newest attraction bringing in thousands of tourist dollars as people from thousands of miles away came to watch Happy eagerly devour cakes of every size and flavor.

It might not be the best story ever written, but for a few minutes of work it is not bad. With a little bit of editing, the Ai story could be used to make cryptogram puzzles, the short story for a reading comprehension worksheet or KDP book, or maybe even the inspiration for a children’s book.
