While the news program can serve a very useful purpose. Thanks to the weatherman, we can make better choices in planing our day and wisely preparing for threats from dangerous storms.

Hmm, I was really hoping to take a trip to the countryside today, but the weatherman said that there was a 90 percent chance of rain, maybe I had better postpone my adventure until tomorrow.

But there is a very real danger that the news, with its overwhelming concentration upon the frightful and the sensational, can overwhelm us. Consuming us with its fearful stories, and taking courage from our hearts as we listen to one doomsday prediction after another.

That is it. I am going into hiding for the rest of the day. Fires, storms, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, global warming, angry mobs, threats of war, killer hornets, falling dollars, bear markets, invisible germs all seeking an opportunity to kill helpless pup. If that is the first half hour of the day, how can I hope of safely making it past breakfast, never mind the end of the day?
